Green building principals guided the creation of an exceptionally beautiful, functional home and landscape that truly blend with the boulders and ecology of the surrounding natural environment.
The home is a poured earth design by Living Systems LLC that, among many green features, includes passive and active solar systems, water harvesting tanks and use of natural water flow on the site. The modest-sized home was carefully sited to minimize disturbance to the land; native vegetation and boulder piles were carefully protected during construction. Landscape Architecture by Landscapes for Life LLC, combined hardscape and regional natives with the natural surroundings and use of salvaged boulders to create an inviting entry and several secluded, pleasing outdoor spaces.
Steel elements by Landscapes for Life – Steel Beautiful included bridges, trellises and artistic screening. One dominant screen near the home’s entry was designed to shield unsightly utility boxes and meters by adding artistic rusted steel panels and sculpture that blend in, reflecting the forms of vegetation nearby. These and the landscape design serve to enhance this stunning home.
